A proper windshield (or windscreen).

For some reason I think a windshield looks pretty cool on a moped. But the wrong size can totally ruin the look. Much care is needed in selection: the proper height, a cutout for the headlight, and vintage styling. So I got lucky with this one. Found it locally on an online classified site for $10. All that was required were two chrome handlebar mounting brackets and about 30 minutes with polishing compound. I’m pleased. So is the Puch Maxi.

A Confederacy of Dunces.

Not far from my home is the Toole-Hecker House. This is the last residence of John Kennedy Toole, author of “A Confederacy of Dunces.” The book was released just before I started LSU and I recall the high praise it received for its rich depiction of New Orleans. Toole earned a posthumous Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1981 for it. If you have not read this literary treasure, you should. It’s hilarious!
